Maths goal, Next learning steps in maths
- To know what happens when a whole number or a decimal is divided by a power of ten.
Today I have finally have reached my learning goal and i will explain it to you to prove that i have learnt it.
A power of ten is a square of ten so it could be 100, 1000,10000,100000…... , and a whole number is any number that has positive integers, for example 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 etc and a decimal is a number that has a decimal point smaller parts that whole numbers, for example 0.5, 0.8. Therefore if you divide one of these by 100 (which is a power of ten) you would have to move the decimal point to the left.
For example le ts see 94.8674 divided by 10.
Because ten has one zero you would have to move the decimal point one space to the left
9 4 . 8 6 7 4
Place the decimal point in the middle of 9 and 4.
So that equals 9.48674
It makes sense because the number has to get smaller when divided

I like this quote from TKI:
"What is ‘agency’?
Students have a sense of ‘agency’ when they feel in control of things that happen around them; when they feel that they can influence events. This is an important sense for learners to develop. They need to be active participants in their learning."
This boy definitely sounds like he has control over his own learning.
How does he know what is next for him?
He has a progression sheet that he is highlighting but we conferenced today and he has completed all stage 8 knowledge. So he is now going to go onto maths Hub algebra to look at what he needs to learn by checking the steps. I do need to think more about the question you've asked as he has completed what we have given all the students so I need to think of plan B!
