Sharing Learning Intentions. Michael Absolum

Shared agreement and understanding between teachers, students and parents about what is to be learnt and why is critical because often students particularly those that are underachievers, don't know what they are supposed to focus on.

One of the most important things teachers can do is to help  students attribute  their success and failures to the effort and strategies rather than luck or ability. This has a direct impact on student achievement .

Helping students see WHY something is important to learn so they see the point of it, is critical

If I am to be successful in this my students (talking target students here) should be able to tell anyone who askes in thier own words the following:

• their global and specific learning intentions
• what quality work looks like and  the success criteria for quality
• how they can use exemplars to assist them in knowing what they are aiming for
• why what they are learning is relevant and imporant
• their individual goals,
