MY TAI: Assessment for Learners Use of Teacher and Student Capabilities matrix

Notes from Meeting with Anne Purves and the highlighted areas are my first task for TAI

What do we want our students to be able to do?

• Have a shared vocab 
• self and peer assess - How to do this use Gail Loane, Sheena (2 medals and a mission)

This is how we are going to go about it in TLIF

Use of teacher and student Capabilities matrix. Will purchase and use Michael Absolum as a guide.

Baseline data is to be collected with plotting teachers and students on the matrix

Using 1, 2 and 5 to begin with.

Use exemplars. What and why am I learning this..."I'm learning to be a writer" Why punctuation etc? Kids need to know what they are learning how and why they are going to learn this, how they will know when they are successful. If they don't know this they can't assess themselves. 

• need to use exemplars esp kids in your class if could use their exemplars
• Use of progressions (new Col writing) to show students and whanau a picture of what progress looks like. Make it explicit to parents what it is children need to know, with examples.
• Success Criteria co-constructed often at the end and use these to improve the learning, not prescriptive.  Look at Shirley Clarke
• Scan children's work.
• 2 medals and a mission for self-assessment as well as pairing up target with great buddies is crucial. Rotate each week
• Introduce peer/share more
• Shift the students to saying "This is what I've been working on today, how have I done?"
