New reporting The Why: All links to where we began for TLIF

Just a bit of reflection on the latest reading i have read and people have shared this too over emails today funny enough.

REPORTS MAKE WAY FOR ONLINE 'REAL TIME'

The below quote:

'reporting should be authentic, genuine and timely. I felt that clear next steps were important and that comments should also celebrate learning and successes. Spreading the load of reporting through the year also came out as a highly desirable goal. From my perspective I really believed that we should be aiming for a reporting system which was more about a conversation in which teachers, students and parents all had voice. Traditional reporting is very much information being sent out from the school'.

....All these articles are nothing new and why we first evolved our inquiry question for TLIF.  Interesting that over time we have reviewed our original inquiry question on online reporting and to get to the ultimate of student agency/voice  parent voice as we found large holes in baseline data as has been reported on in the past.
 we have discovered what's missing....
students were not clear about;
 what they were learning?
how they were going?
 how did they know this?
How can they improve?
Where do they go for help?


This is why we need to change our original focus and why all this still fits to our new inquiry question:

How do teachers, as they inquire into their own teaching practice, make an impact on student learning and assessment capability in an online environment?

to promote the following investigation

An Investigation into Student Centred Progress and Achievement in the Online Environment. 

We have come a long way and are making fantastic changes to the way our school is going to report this year, of course with the change to national standards, yay!  Clarity in the learning notes.. in past refections

....So getting back to the article, the why in Link Ed. Has this fixed reporting? and the answer is of course, yes BUT and the big one I've wanted since I became a leader in TLIF,  The quote below is exactly what I believe it should be:

‘timely’ reporting instead of ’timed’ reporting. Teachers have been given the option to publish and notify the parents when ever they choose. This means that teachers can write comments about learning when it is fresh in their minds and publish it straight away. The parents will then receive an emailed copy of the comment as well as being able to read it online.


However we are not ready YET and where we are beginning with our new report is great news.

We are on the right track through our findings from TLIF and as a leader my  role is to ensure quality teaching In our school by sharing my knowledge as a leader. Also Clarity of what is being learnt.

• effective teaching and learning - knowing the difference between what is taught  and what is learned
• To ensure there are procedures so that teachers regularly use evidence to review student progress.
• The importance of student voice to gather and effect change. ( This is going out Monday to the team - good time midway through the term)
